Memorial Day weekend in Maryland will gallop into a new tradition this year with the debut of the Fair Hill Turf Showcase.

The inaugural Fair Hill Turf Showcase is a two-day horse racing event bringing Thoroughbred turf racing and steeplechase competition to Cecil County. Featuring the first all-turf Thoroughbred racing program in the region held at a nationally recognized course, the event highlights Fair Hill’s distinctive dual focus on flat and jump racing—a rarity in American horse racing. Organizers hope the showcase draws racing fans from across the Mid-Atlantic while shining a spotlight on one of Maryland’s premier equestrian destinations.
The excitement continues on Memorial Day Monday with a full steeplechase card held in partnership with the National Steeplechase Association. Known for its fast-paced races over hurdles and fences, steeplechase racing has deep roots in Maryland history. And the addition of an NSA-sanctioned event links the new showcase to the state’s long-standing horse-racing traditions. The combination of flat racing and steeplechase competition gives spectators the chance to experience two unique styles of this sport in one weekend.
Located in northeastern Maryland, the Fair Hill Special Event Zone has become nationally recognized for its equestrian facilities, which host international competitions, training events, and year-round outdoor recreation. The new Turf Showcase adds another major event to Fair Hill’s growing calendar and further cements Maryland’s reputation as a destination for horse racing and equestrian sports.
With its blend of world-class turf racing, steeplechase tradition, and rich equestrian heritage, the Fair Hill Turf Showcase is poised to become a signature Memorial Day event in Maryland, celebrating the best of the state’s horse racing culture.
