Fun Fact: This Maryland County Has the Only Coast-to-Coast Trail Running Through It

The American Discovery Trail (ADT) is the nation’s only coast-to-coast, non-motorized trail. The trail passes directly through Caroline County, connecting 15 states between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The ADT connects together a network of local, state, and national trails, many designed for walking, hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Along its path, the trail connects scenic and historic routes, national parks, forests, and countless sites of natural, cultural, and historical significance. Visitors along the trail can experience 23 distinct ecosystems ranging from forests and mountains to deserts, plains, and waterfronts. The trail stretches across 15 states, including Maryland.

In April 2024, Denton in Caroline County made history by becoming the first U.S. town officially designated as an American Discovery Trail Town. The Denton Town Council passed a resolution recognizing “the importance of outdoor recreation, connecting communities, promoting health and wellness, and preserving America’s natural beauty,” affirming its commitment to support and promote the trail as a national treasure.

Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the American Discovery Trail in Caroline County, experiencing the beauty, history, and community that make the national trail such an important part of the country.
