Harford Voters Approve Term Limits for County Council Members

Harford County voters have approved term limits for county council members, a measure already in place for the county executive role.

On election day, Harford voters approved term limits for county council members by a significant majority vote. Question A on the ballot this week was passed 91 percent to 9 percent. The new law prohibits a council member from consecutively serving more than three four-year terms. Additionally, it prohibits a council president from consecutively serving more than three four-year terms in that job.

Question A read:

The Charter Amendment prohibits a Councilmember from consecutively serving more than three four-year terms as the representative of a Council District and prohibits a Council President from consecutively serving more than three four-year terms as the Council President.  (Section 206 of the Charter currently provides no term limits.)
