Counties Back Creation of a Board of Public Works Transparency Dashboard

On February 14, 2024, Associate Policy Director Brianna January submitted written testimony to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee in support of SB 703- Board of Public Works- Transparency Dashboard. This bill requires the Office of the Comptroller to create and maintain an online dashboard to increase transparency and accessibility of the Board of Public Works processes and funded projects.

The dashboard would allow counties to more easily track local projects before the Board of Public Works for consideration and through their implementation. It would also serve as a clearing house for businesses looking to do business with the State.

From MACo Testimony:

Counties commend this initiative and strongly welcome its implications for county governments – who themselves are frequent participants in the Board’s considerations. Not only would SB 703 increase transparency and accessibility but it would also support counties in tracking their capital projects from the time of consideration before the Board of Public Works through various stages of implementation and completion.

SB 703’s cross-file, HB 877, was heard on February 27, 2024 in the House Health and Government Operations Committee. Brianna January testified in support of this bill.

SB 703 was heard in the opposite chamber, the House Health and Government Operations Committee, on March 26. MACo submitted testimony in support of this bill.
