Center Maryland’s podcast “The Lobby” featured Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich as its guest in its latest episode, with reflections on the county’s priorities and progress.
County Executive Elrich joined episode 65 of Center Maryland’s “The Lobby” podcast live from the 2023 MACo Winter Conference. County Executive Elrich talked about Montgomery County’s economic development, policy agenda, and education funding.
Elrich walked through the county’s recent tax increases to pay for the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and challenges with school funding. He also talked about the limitations of county taxing authority and its impact on economic development, funding operating budgets, and maintaining community sustainable community development. He also highlighted the county’s new approach to industrialization and active recruitment for manufacturing and other industry operations. “We’re stepping out of our comfort zone,” he said about Montgomery’s new tactics.
Importantly, the County Executive discussed the importance of local flexibility and how the State can help support counties in their developmental progress.
