Charles County Commissioners Face Budget Balancing Challenges

Charles County Commissioners recently began work on their proposed fiscal 2015 budget.  The baseline budget, prepared by the county’s Budget Division, projects general fund revenues of $355.3 million and general fund expenditures of $367.3 million, an estimated gap of $11.9 million. Adding to the budget balancing difficulties, Commissioners received requests for fiscal 2015 totaling $396.4 million.

Commissioners have begun holding a series of work sessions to bring the budget into balance. On April 23, a public hearing will be held on the operating budget and the setting of tax rates.  According the operating budget calendar, Commissioners plan to adopt the budget on May 6, 2014.
