Charles County Detention Center Achieves Excellence in Health Services

Health care services in the Charles County Detention Center underwent a rigorous, voluntary evaluation to receive national accreditation.

Charles County Detention Center (CCDC) Director Ryan Ross, alongside County Sheriff Troy D. Berry, announced that the CCDC has earned accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) by demonstrating compliance with NCCHC’s nationally recognized standards of care for correctional health services in jails. The accreditation is a voluntary process that involves a stringent professional assessment by a team of medical experts. The NCCHC standards help facilities not only care for the individuals in their custody but actually improve their health in order to help returning citizens stay healthy and on the right track.

“I salute the health care staff, custody staff, and leadership for their hard work and dedication on behalf of our patients. We have a constitutional obligation to provide health care to those incarcerated in our jail, and we are committed to doing so with innovation, excellence, and efficiency,” said Director Ross

The CCDC medical facility is a newly renovated unit with sixteen patient beds, updated exams rooms and medical equipment, and a full-service dental office. Additionally, a triage office was added to the booking area. This allows care to be administered to individuals experiencing a medical emergency immediately upon entry into the facility.
