The Maryland Department of Labor has released a revised draft outline of private plan regulations for employers to seek approval to use equivalent private plans instead of the State FAMLI Plan to implement paid leave benefits. Written comments are due on July 13.
The Maryland Department of Labor’s FAMLI Division — tasked with implementing and guiding the statewide Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) law — has released a revised draft of its “discussion document” for Equivalent Private Insurance Plan (EPIP).
Private Plan Revised Draft Guidelines
Anyone offering public comments should limit the topic of their comments to the subject matters covered in the discussion document. The Division encourages employers and stakeholders to weigh in on the document via written comments due July 13.
An email from the FAMLI Division stated:
Many stakeholders submitted answers in response to the questions we posed in the Equivalent Private Insurance Plan (EPIP) Discussion Document. Attached is a draft outline of possible rules regarding EPIPs that reflects stakeholder feedback we received. We welcome additional comments, feedback and suggestions as we further refine the text. Written comments can be submitted via email to FAMLI.policy@maryland.gov by July 13. All oral and written comments will become part of the public record. We look forward to hearing your input.
MACo plans to submit written and oral comments for all 24 counties. However, it is strongly encouraged that individual counties also offer feedback for their county.
Upcoming Stakeholder Meetings
NOTE: The Phase 4 meeting regarding appeals processes has been rescheduled to Monday, August 7 (originally scheduled for Thursday, August 3) from 1:00-3:00 pm.
