Queen Anne’s County Partners with Chesapeake Bay Trust for Outreach and Restoration Grant Program.
Queen Anne’s County and the Chesapeake Bay Trust recently put out a request for proposal (RFP) for the Outreach and Restoration Grant Program (ORGP). The application deadline is August 10. This grant program encourages outreach, community engagement activities, and on-the-ground restoration projects that increase knowledge, change behavior, and accelerate stewardship of natural resources that involve residents in restoring local green spaces, waterways, and natural resources. Since Queen Anne’s County began partnering with the Chesapeake Bay Trust in 2019, the county has seen almost 12 square miles of reforestation.
According to the press release eligible projects should center around:
- Education and outreach efforts that include monitoring equipment installation to assess the performance of existing public Best Management Project’s (BMP) (Those with school owned BMP’s are highly encouraged to apply)
- Installation of stormwater best management practices and restoration projects such as tree plantings, rain gardens, meadow plantings, and other low impact development techniques.
- Workshops on training for stormwater management project maintenance.
- Working with Queen Anne’s County Government on developing a Kent Island Watershed plan from available data and identifying gaps and opportunities.
