Charles County Government is partnering with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay to host a free Meadow Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Serenity Farm (6932 Serenity Farm Rd, Benedict) from 9 a.m. to noon.
Meadows play an important role in maintaining a healthy environment, provide important ecological functions, and help hold and purify water (USDA). Hosting local workshops is a great way to educate the public on how to build and maintain meadows in their own backyard.
According to a County press release:
Charles County residents are invited to attend to learn more about meadows and how to install one on their property. Register at https://forms.gle/oa9CYL7ehWzXRsc87. Advanced registration is required, and the deadline is Monday, Oct. 18.
During this workshop, you will discover the benefits of meadows, how to install and maintain a meadow, and the funding resources available. The workshop concludes with a walking tour of a young and a mature meadow on uneven terrain and taking a short hayride to the site. Please dress appropriately, wear closed-toed shoes, and bring water. Light refreshments will be provided. The event will occur in an open-air barn and follow local, state, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 guidelines.
