Yesterday, the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee chose Chair Cheryl Summers Landis to represent District 23B in the House for the next 16 months.
The district’s vacancy opened last month when then-Del. Ronald L. Watson was appointed to the state Senate, following the resignation of Douglas J.J. Peters. Peters resigned to serve on the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.
Landis’ nomination now goes to Governor Hogan for consideration, who has 15 days to make the appointment official.
In addition to her role as Prince George’s Democratic Central Committee Chair, Landis is also a Democratic National Committeewoman for Maryland and serves on the state party’s executive, credentials and rules committees. Previously, she worked for the county’s school system for nearly three decades.
