NACo Now Accepting Applicants for Policy Steering Committee Membership

Want to be a part of advocacy efforts on the national level? Apply today to be considered for an appointment on a steering committee for the 2021–2022 presidential year.

The nomination process for membership on the National Association of Counties (NACo) policy steering committees is underway! Access a seat at the table and add your voice and expertise on the most important issues counties face. These committees help drive NACo’s federal policy advocacy. Their recommendations ensure that federal policies and legislation support local decision-making, prevent unfunded mandates and provide direct federal investments in county priorities.

Any elected or appointed officials and county staff of NACo member counties are eligible to apply. Your level of involvement is based on your schedule. Committees hold monthly conference calls, and meetings are held at the NACo Annual and Legislative Conferences. Members serve one-year terms from July to July of the following year and must reapply each year. Applications submitted during a committee term can be accepted but will require another application for the next year.

HOW TO APPLY:
MACo – the Maryland Association of Counties – is responsible for nominating general policy steering committee members from our state.

To become a member of a steering committee you must fill out the nomination form and return it to avalliant@mdcounties.org by August 1, 2021.

The nominations are then processed in MACo’s office and will be forwarded to NACo for approval by the NACo President. If selected you will be notified of your appointment in September.
