FEMA Opens Application Period for Firefighter Grant Programs

The application period is now open for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s three major firefighter grant programs.

1200px-FEMA_logo.svg_The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) last week announced the availability of FY 2020 grant funding for career and volunteer fire departments.

The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants support the recruitment and retention of firefighters. The Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) grants support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards.

$100 million is available through a special round of Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) to support the purchase of the personal protective equipment necessary for COVID-19 response efforts.

The grant period closes on May 15 at 5:00 pm.

FEMA will host several webinars to walk departments through the application process. Departments with questions can also contact the fire grant help desk at firegrants@fema.dhs.gov or 1-866-274-0960.
