Amid the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the Garrett County Commissioners today announced that the County will postpone its annual tax sale indefinitely. The tax sale was originally scheduled for May 22, 2020.
According to a Garrett County press release:
This will allow our taxpayers time and resources to address their immediate needs as a result of this crisis. We will be announcing a revised date for this sale after the crisis passes. Payments can still be made online and by mail for any amounts currently in arrears.
The tax sale is used to collect delinquent real property taxes and other unpaid charges owed to the County, all of which are liens against the real property. It is a public, auction of County lien interests on properties.
