MACo Urges Funding for Local Housing Grant Program for Homeless Veterans and Survivors of Domestic Violence

Homeless manMACo has submitted a letter to Governor Hogan in support of funding the Local Housing Grant Program for Homeless Veterans and Survivors of Domestic Violence in his FY 2021 budget.

The program establishes a housing voucher grant program to help counties target and address homelessness for particularly vulnerable and hard to reach members of their communities. It was created by HB 672/SB 810 which passed in the 2019 session with MACo support and was signed into law earlier this year.

From the letter:

Counties have an interest in ensuring that individuals and families within their communities have access to resources. The 2017 Maryland Interagency Council on Homelessness Point-in-Time count found there to be 536 homeless veterans and 800 homeless survivors of domestic violence. The funding from this grant program will help counties house these individuals when existing resources to address homelessness have not been sufficient to resolve the problem.
