Jawando Recognized By National Leadership Group

Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando was included on a national list of 20 NewDEAL leaders.

D4Sx_lPXoAA6OC7The NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders) is a national network of pro-growth progressive state and local leaders working to expand opportunity for all Americans in the changing economy. The group recently announced its latest class of 20 leaders from across the country – including newly-elected Will Jawando of the Montgomery County Council.

From Jawando’s website press release:

“I’m excited to be a part of this new class of amazing leaders and to work with them and NewDEAL to expand opportunity in communities nationwide,” said Councilmember Jawando.

Even before taking office in 2018, Jawando was committed to improving educational and economic outcomes for Maryland residents. He was selected to join NewDEAL in part because of his dedication to ensuring students are prepared to succeed in the new economy.  In addition to his work in the Obama White House and Department of Education, he also spearheaded Summer R.I.S.E., a summer job shadowing program that has placed hundreds of students in professional work experiences across the County.

With the recognition, Jawando joins several Maryland officials, including Council colleague Hans Reimer and Prince George’s County Exceutive Angela Alsobrooks. Also on the list from Maryland: Senators Bill Ferguson and Will Smith, and Delegate Brooke Lierman.
