The Academy for Excellence in Local Governance, a voluntary certificate course for local government officials and professionals, will hold a Graduate course focusing on leadership on January 18, 2019.
The Academy for Excellence in Local Governance certificate program was founded by MACo and MML, is facilitated by the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy, and is sponsored by the Local Government Insurance Trust (LGIT). The Academy Graduate Program was designed to provide continuing education to public leaders in Maryland to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities. The Graduate Program is open to those Academy Fellows who have completed the Academy core program.
The Academy for Excellence in Local Governance will be offering, “Building Your Leadership Capacity: Influencing Change” at LGIT on January 18, 2019. A brief class description is below:
Every election cycle brings its own brand of change from the people who lead, to the policies that are pursued, to the budgets that are constructed to support those agendas. Some changes may be welcome; others not so. Some officials and their staffs will readily embrace change; others will seem more reluctant. Some leaders will be quite effective in leading change while others will struggle or feel challenged in particular circumstances.
This interactive leadership workshop will focus on:
- Deepening your awareness of your approach to change
- Increasing your appreciation for different approaches to change and how to leverage them to effectively support change initiatives
- Identify ways to adapt your style to have greater positive influence on people and outcomes during a change process
In advance of the workshop, participants will complete a brief self-assessment on change. The results will be used during the workshop to explore the strengths and potential pitfalls of different approaches to change and serve as a basis for participants to build capacity in this critical leadership competency.
Date: Friday, Jan 18, 2019
Time: 8:30 am – 3: 00 pm
Location: LGIT, 7225 Parkway Drive, Hanover, MD 21076
