State Funding Opportunities for Local Governments

The Department of Housing and Community Development and the Department of Natural Resources have announced new rounds of funding opportunities for local governments interested in revitalization programs, parks, and green space.

From the Maryland Department of Planning newsletter:

Just last week, state agencies announced several upcoming funding opportunities for local governments and other collaborators. The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) announced its anchor revitalization program funding including Community LegacyStrategic Demolition Fund – and the Baltimore Regional Neighborhood Initiative. These programs offer funding to support local housing, community and economic development as well as revitalization projects. Applicants must serve communities that include designated Sustainable Community areas and projects or initiatives that themselves align with local Sustainable Community Action Plans.

The Department of Natural Resources just announced its next round of Community Parks and Playgrounds Program funding. This program provides funding to focus on existing and new park and green space systems in Maryland’s cities and towns. Flexible grants are provided to local governments which help them rehabilitate, expand or improve existing parks. Funding can help develop environmentally oriented parks and recreation projects, create new parks, or purchase and install playground equipment in older neighborhoods and intensely developed areas throughout the state.
