MACo Legal and Policy Counsel Les Knapp and Research Director Robin Clark Eilenberg taught a group of Anne Arundel Community College GED students about the role and importance of county governments on June 7, 2016.
Knapp and Clark covered several points during their presentation, including:
- the diversity of Maryland’s counties;
- the key services that counties provide;
- the different forms of county government; and
- the role of MACo.
They fielded questions from the students about how to interact with county elected officials and staff and advocate for issues. Several students expressed surprise at the breadth of services counties provided. Knapp and Clark also discussed the difference between counties and municipalities.
In addition to the MACo presentation, the students received a tour of State complex by the Department of Legislative Services.
