The Governor’s Office confirmed yesterday that Delegate Tony O’Donnell (R-St. Mary’s, Calvert) has been appointed to the Maryland Public Service Commission, the entity overseeing utilities in Maryland.

Southern MD News reports that Delegate O’Donnell will have a formal announcement about the move next week, though he commented briefly that it is a “prestigious appointment.”

O’Donnell is to assume his new post later in the summer.

The Calvert and St. Mary’s Republican central committees will collaborate on a list of potential appointees for his delegate seat. The governor will make the appointment based on this list. Julie Burk-Greer, chair of the St. Mary’s committee, stated that the governor wants options and choices. St. Mary’s County Commissioner Todd Morgan is interested in the delegate appointment and if he is chosen by the Governor, the central committees would then submit another list of names for the governor to consider to fill the vacated commissioner seat.
