Dr. David A. Cox was recently named 2016 Maryland Superintendent of the Year. Dr. Cox is currently serving in his seventh year as Superintendent of Allegany County Public Schools.

The Public School Superintendents’ Association of Maryland announced the honors at its annual Maryland Negotiating Service Awards Banquet held in Ocean City.

A committee of his peers made the selection of Cox as Superintendent of the Year.

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Cox stated,

I am proud to say that I am a first generation college graduate who knows firsthand the power of public education to raise our children up to opportunities not yet imagined. . . I am also especially grateful for the public school teachers I had as a student in rural Hawkins County, TN, who saw potential in me that I could not yet see, and who gave me the encouragement and support to dream and achieve beyond my imagination.

MACo regularly works with The Public School Superintendents’ Association of Maryland (PSSAM) as a partner in education advocacy at the Maryland General Assembly.

This year, MACo hopes to have the help of PSSAM in working for solutions to rising school construction costs.
