Calvert County Commissioners voted unanimously last week to approve a $238.8 million budget for fiscal 2016. As reported by Southern Maryland Newspapers Online,

After much discussion and debate, the BOCC’s budget funds the school system at the state-required maintenance of effort for the first time since fiscal 2013, rather than above MOE, and provides no salary increases, cost of living increases, furloughs or tax increases.

To balance the budget, which contains $4.5 million less in revenue from the previous year, there is a use of $5.6 million in fund balance, leaving the county with approximately $19 million in unassigned fund balance.

Additional information on the approved fiscal 2016 budget can be found on the county’s website.
