Coverage from The Frederick News-Post notes,

The slogan received the most votes of five finalists in a public contest that ran from March 27 to April 20. In total, 860 votes were cast in the contest, which ran on the county’s website, and in its libraries and senior centers. The winning slogan received 256 votes, or about 30 percent of the votes. The five finalists had been chosen by a committee after residents had submitted 130 ideas for the slogan.

The county will immediately start to market the slogan, placing it on its website, letterhead, business cards, brochures, social media, cable TV and event signage, Gardner said. The slogan will eventually replace the tag line “Open for Business,” which is currently on the county’s street signs.

The winning slogan was written by Joy Schaefer…

Schaefer said she wrote the slogan individually, not as a school board member, because she thought the rebranding was exciting. She proposed “Rich History, Bright Future” because its important for Frederick to be known in this way, she said.

“Once we start using the verbiage, people will start thinking that way,” she said.

Gardner said she felt all of the top finalists “say something special about the community and capture the essence of who we are.”

“We do have a community that certainly values its history and its agricultural heritage, and all of our cultural amenities here, but we are a growing, changing community and we have a lot of things that we offer to the state of Maryland and to the citizens who call Frederick County home,” she said.
