A panel of county officials testified in support of a multi-year restoration of Highway User Revenues in a Senate committee hearing. MACo Treasurer and Anne Arundel County Council Member Jerry Walker, Allegany County Commission President Bill Valentine, and Prince George’s County Council Member Todd Turner served as panelists, detailing the loss of state revenues for locally-maintained roadways.

“Transportation Funding Restoration” is MACo’s top initiative for the 2015 General Assembly Session, MACo Legislative Director Andrea Mansfield testified, in favor of SB181. This bill would restore local government’s Highway User Revenues (HUR) back to the historic 30% share over a four-year time frame beginning in Fiscal 2016.

The written testimony explains:

MACo feels strongly that it is now time for local roads and bridges to again play a more significant role in the State’s transportation funding plan… Simply put, no other component of the State budget has suffered reductions of this magnitude.
