Wicomico County Considers an Elected School Board

As reported by the DelmarvaNow, both members of the Eastern Shore Delegation and Wicomico County Council have come out in support of a measure for an elected school board. As described in the article,

Currently, Wicomico board of education members are selected by the governor after recommendations by Republican or Democratic central committees. . .

Wicomico is one of four counties in state without at least some sort of elected board. Out of 24 counties, 18 have purely elected school boards while two have board comprised of both appointed and elected members. Worcester County adopted a hybrid board in 2000 after voters approved the move in a referendum question and held its first election to the new seven-member board in 2002.
