Earlier this week, both Talbot & Anne Arundel counties named new superintendents to their public school systems. Current Anne Arundel County Public Schools Chief of Staff George Arlotto was named as Anne Arundel County’s new superintendent and Talbot County Interim Superintendent Kelly Griffith was offered the position of permanent superintendent by the Talbot County Board of Education.
According to the Baltimore Sun Arlotto is already thinking about the future of the Anne Arundel County Public School system,
Arlotto told the board he was “delighted, honored and quite honestly humbled” to be selected. He said he wants to focus on early education and strengthen magnet programs but does not anticipate wholesale changes.
“We’re doing a good job. I think we can do a better job,” he said. “I have a vision for better aligning the work here at central office and aligning each of the departments to better serve the schools. … We can tighten some things up.”
Griffith is grateful and honored to be offered the Talbot County Superintendent position. From the Star Democrat,
“I am honored to be given this opportunity by the board to serve as the Talbot County Public School Superintendent,” Griffith said. “I am deeply grateful for the support that I have received from the staff and the community throughout this process. I believe in the power of collaboration and the need for accountability in moving forward. Our children must come first in our planning and decision making. I am committed to making the Talbot County Public Schools the best school system in the state of Maryland.”

Griffith has been acting interim superintendent since the retirement of former superintendent Karen Salmon in July 2013.
