Courts’ Rules Committee To Consider Bail Procedures

The Maryland Court’s Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure (Rules Committee) will hold a public meeting at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 9 to address proposed changes to their rules as a result of the implementation of the DeWolfe v. Richmond decision to require attorneys at bail hearings.

The committee will be considering amendments to the rules concerning but not limited to the initial appearance of the defendant; appointment appearance, or waiver of attorney at initial appearance; and charging document content.  Anyone interested in submitting amendments to the proposed rules should contact Judge Wilner. It is strongly encouraged that all interested stakeholders attend.  The meeting agenda and the proposed rules may be viewed on the committee’s website.
