Maryland’s General Assembly will convene the 2014 Legislative Session today at noon. We can expect plenty of political posturing in this election-year session including drama over a handful of several high-profile bills, according to a recent report in the Washington Post. Throughout the session, MACo will focus on issues of concern to counties, protect county interests, and advance our top legislative priorities.
The Washington Post released a list of the top ten things to watch this legislative session. The list includes several issues involving and affecting county laws and county funding such as:
- Whether the $11.50-an-hour minimum wages recently adopted by Montgomery and Prince George’s counties will stand.
- Whether Democrats will cut taxes in an election year.
- Whether Republicans will make headway on repealing the “rain tax.”
