MACo Winter Conference Session – “Is CyberSpace a Public Place?”

MACo’s Winter Conference is just around the corner, December 11-13, 2013 at the Hyatt in Cambridge, Maryland. Join us on Thursday afternoon, December 12, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., for a session on the Public Information Act (PIA) titled “Is CyberSpace a Public Place? A Modern Look at the Public Information Act.” Speakers will discuss the importance of the PIA, what it means, and how to apply it to electronic records.

Description:  Maryland’s Public Information Act balances the public’s right to access information and transparency with the need for privacy and governmental burden to retrieve and provide the information.  Cyberspace and remote data storage has complicated this balancing act by blurring the lines regarding public data.  This session will review the Public Information Act and discuss how the Act applies to electronic documents and data, including the issue of data access and document retention on cloud networks.

Speakers:

  1. The Honorable Bill Ferguson, Maryland Senate
  2. Hilary B. Ruley, Assistant City Solicitor, Baltimore City Law Department
  3. Jennifer, Bevan-Dangel, Executive Director, Common Cause

Our current registration rates end on Wednesday, November 27, so please register today for our lowest possible rates!
