Counties Comment on Proposed MDE Generator Emission Standards

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is considering new regulations that impose tougher emission standards for back-up generators used for demand response call-outs.  The standards would be potentially greater than those recently adopted by the United State Environmental Protection Agency.

MDE Letter Discussing Proposed Regulatory Changes

A number of commercial, industrial, and county facilities rely on demand response call-out generators to reduce their electricity costs and the regulations have the potential to eliminate this cost savings.  Several counties including Allegany, Carroll, and Frederick have submitted comments to MDE.
