Furloughs at Fort Meade

As reported in the Baltimore Sun, more than 500 civilian workers at Fort Meade, Maryland will receive furlough notices over the next week, with plans for one furlough day per week from July 8 through September 30.

The furlough days are intended to help the Defense Department meet the across-the-board spending cuts known as the sequester. Uniformed military personnel are exempted from furloughs. . . Officials said the base’s more than 100 tenant organizations, which include the National Security Agency, the Defense Information Systems Agency, the Defense Media Activity and many others, will issue their own furlough notices as necessary.
