MAEOE Welcomes 35 Schools to Maryland Green School Awards Program

Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) has recognized 35 schools in various Maryland counties as meeting the Maryland Green School Awards Program requirements in 2013.

The Maryland Green School Awards Program is a holistic, integrated approach to authentic learning that incorporates local environmental issue investigation and professional development with environmental best management practices and community stewardship.

To apply for Maryland Green School recognition, a school must complete an application consisting of a school profile; an overview of the school’s top five environmental accomplishments; documentation of the inclusion of the environment in celebration, learning and professional development; reflections on Best Management Practices with regard to maintaining health in a variety of environments; and descriptions of community-based environmental partnerships. Schools that receive Maryland Green School status must recertify every four years.

The schools new to being a part of the green school program come from Anne Arundel County (7 schools), Baltimore City (6 schools), Baltimore County (7 schools), Carroll County (3 schools), Garrett County (1 school), Harford County (1 school), Howard County (2 schools), Montgomery County (2 schools), Prince George’s County (3 schools), St. Mary’s County (1 school), Washington County (1 school) and Wicomico County (1 school).  For a complete list of green schools, visit MAEOE’s website
