On Friday, March 29, Anne Arundel County’s first executive Joseph W. Alton, Jr., died at age 94.  He passed away after many years of deteriorating health.

The Capital Gazette quoted former county executive, O. James Lighthizer, a close friend of Alton’s:

“Joe was a force in local politics.  It is difficult to understand how dominant he was. There’s been no one like that, before or since.”
