Counties Receive Land Preservation Grants

At the October 3  Board of Public Works meeting 11 Maryland Rural Legacy Program areas received grants totaling $5,622,000.oo  in awards.  The Maryland Rural Legacy Program was established in 1998 to preserve large, contiguous areas of  land from sprawl development and to enhance resource, agricultural, forestry, and environmental protection.  Areas awarded funding and/or expansion were:

  • Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, and Talbot counties-Agricultural Security Corridor Rural Legacy Area ($440,000.00)
  • Anne Arundel County-Anne Arundel South Rural Legacy Area ($45,307.63)
  • Worcester County-Coastal Bays Rural Legacy Area ($320,000.00)
  • Harford County-Deer Creek Rural Legacy Area ($701,366.63)
  • Somerset and Worcester counties-Dividing Creek Rural Legacy Area ($130,631.69)
  • Cecil County-Fair Hill Rural Legacy Area ($113,698.95)
  • Washington County-Mid-Maryland Washington Rural Legacy Area ($1,260,000.00)
  • Dorchester County – Nanticoke Rural Legacy Area ($650,000.00)
  • Baltimore County-Piney Run Rural Legacy Area ($568,000.00)
  • Carroll  County – Upper Patapsco and Little Pipe Creek Rural Legacy Area ($617,995.09)
  • St. Mary’s County – Mattapany Rural Legacy Area ($775,000.00)
  • Allegany County – Mountain Ridge Rural Legacy Area (Expansion-14 acres)
