Public Comment Period for PlanMD Implementation Strategies Ends August 10

The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) is seeking public comment on a draft of PlanMaryland’s State Implementation Strategies.  The draft strategies describe how the involved State agencies will better coordinate their policies and programs and encourage local government compliance with the Plan.  Some of the draft strategies would require legislative or regulatory changes and constitute mandates on county governments.   MDP has not made the complete first draft of the strategies (which totals around 130 pages and includes detailed explanations of the draft strategies) available to the general public.

Summary of Draft State Implementation Strategies

Comments must be submitted by August 10 to Chuck Boyd at MDP in order for the comments to be included in an end-of-the-month progress report to Governor Martin O’Malley.  Please email any comments to:  CBoyd@mdp.state.md.us.

According to MDP the progress report “does not reflect finalizing or sanctioning any of the Implementation Strategies.”  MACo is a member of the PlanMaryland Workgroup of the  Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission and the Workgroup will continue to review and provide comment on the draft strategies.
