MACo 2012 Summer Conference Session – The Parks Dilemma: Preservation vs Recreation

Description: County Parks and Recreation Departments serve two important purposes: (1) to provide recreational  facilities and public access to natural areas; and (2) to preserve and protect open space. These two purposes are often complimentary but sometimes they can conflict and a Department must then determine how to best prioritize projects and allocate resources. Speakers will discuss how conflicts can occur, offer advice on resolving such conflicts, and  provide case studies showing successful outcomes.

Speakers:

  1. Ronnie Gathers, Director of Recreation and Parks, Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission
  2. Christine M. Hill, J.D., Chapter Conservation Representative, Maryland Sierra Club
  3. Allen Brown, Chairman, Wicomico County Recreation Commission

Date &Time: Friday, August 17, 2012; 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

MACo’s 2012 Summer Conference will be held from August 15 – 18 at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland.
