As reported by the Baltimore Business Journal, Senator Jim Rosapepe and Delegate Brian Feldman are both expressing support for a state constitutional amendment that would allow voters to weigh in on whether to raise revenue for transportaion.
Feldman said that with this amendment, legislators would be able to avoid the political pressures involved with raising transportation revenue by letting the people weigh in. Current state law does not authorize for a referendum on such issues.
Feldman and Rosapepe hope that if O’Malley does call for a special session in July to address the expansion of gambling in the state, he will also address this amendment.
