2012 Emerging County Sustainability Strategies

The National Association of Counties (NACo) has released a publication entitled “2012 Emerging Sustainability Strategies in America’s Counties.”  The report highlights the latest sustainability strategies that county governments are implementing throughout the country.   NACo’s Green Government Advisory Board identified the following as promising solutions to county government’s sustainability challenges:

  2. Community-wide Energy Management
  3. Community-scale (Distributed) Wind Power Generation
  4. Purchase of Bio-based Products
  5. Conversion Technologies
  6. Environmental Media Buying
  7. Bicycle Sharing Programs
  8. Power Purchase Agreements
  9. Smart & Connected County Facilities
  10. Energy  & Water Conservation in County Corrections Facilities
  11. Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy in County Water Facilities
  12. Implementation of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC)
  13. Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Programs
  14. Going Green through Information Technology Improvements
  15. Building Energy Performance Disclosure
  16. Community Choice Aggregation
  17. Plastic Bag Regulations & Fees
