Deadline Approaching for MACo President’s Healthy Counties Award

The deadline is approaching for the 2012 MACo President’s Healthy Counties Best Practices Award.  Applications must be received by Friday, April 13.

MACo wishes to recognize Maryland county programs that enhance the health of a county through best practices and innovative programs and partnerships that enrich services to citizens while improving upon the fiscal wellness of the county. MACo is interested in programs that enhance the health of a county – not just those programs improving the physical health of a county’s residents. While programs focusing on physical and medical health are welcome to apply, we are equally interested in best practices in all areas of county service. The award committee is focusing on the “health” of the county as an organization providing services to residents.

A county’s “health” can be determined by several factors, including – but not limited to – fiscal, environmental, and strategic planning and improved public relations and citizen outreach. Any program that increases a county’s well-being as an organization providing services to residents is welcome to apply. We are interested in promoting best practices that help a county provide more innovative services to its residents while maintaining a healthy and happy balance between the fiscal bottom line and the services provided.

Maryland counties may nominate one or more programs to be considered for a Healthy Counties Best Practices Award. Award recipients will be recognized at the Welcoming Session of MACo’s Summer Conference, to be held at 9:00 am on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, MD.
