As previously reported on Conduit Street, the House Appropriations Committee pushed off its decision on a teacher pension shift until Monday afternoon. However, the Committee did adopt budget language that would enable the shift through the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act (BRFA). Since the Committee voted and approved the budget bill, this budget language would provide for a reduction in the general fund appropriation for eduction should the Committee approve a shift through the BRFA. A pension shift is expected to be a part of the House budget plan.
This language also removed pension shift references to librarians and separate language did the same for community colleges. These actions confirm that teacher pension costs will not be shifting for these entities.
