Thursday, January 5, 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM
Public employees are local governments’ most important resource. Yet, difficult economic times are forcing governments at all levels to make adjustments to employee benefits to rein in increasing costs. These actions, as difficult as they are for elected officials, have significant effects on employee morale and the public sector’s ability to hire and maintain qualified personnel. Panelists will discuss why changes in benefits structures are needed, the importance of balanced decisions to recruit and maintain a qualified workforce, and employee expectations during these difficult economic times.
Speakers Include:
1) The Honorable Nancy K. Kopp, Maryland State Treasurer
2) David B. Dunn, County Manager, Frederick County
3) Glenard S. Middleton, Sr., Executive Director, AFSCME Council 67
