Every year in January, county elected officials, Senators, Delegates, and other representatives of Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City gather in Cambridge, Maryland for the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Winter Conference. The goal of the event is to provide county decision-makers and other participants with the tools for more effective leadership and a clearer perspective on the issues that will be addressed during the upcoming Maryland General Assembly session. The ultimate result of attendance is more effective and efficient county government.
The theme of the 2012 conference is “Do It NOW!” in celebration of the life and legacy of the late William Donald Schaefer, former Governor of Maryland, Past President of MACo, and responsive government advocate.
The Conference will commence on Wednesday with a tribute dinner in honor of Governor Schaefer and end with a 2012 General Assembly Forecast featuring the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, President of the Maryland Senate, the Honorable Michael Busch, Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates, the Honorable E.J. Pipkin, Minority Leader of the Maryland Senate, and Joe Bryce, Governor’s Chief Legislative Officer, who will discuss legislative priorities for the upcoming legislative session
There are 16 educational sessions, 20 table-top displays, and several Association meetings and government briefings.
