Wicomico County Council to Fill Vacant District 4 Seat

The Wicomico County Council will meet today to review a list of candidates nominated by the county’s Republican Central Committee to fill the vacant District 4 seat.  Following last month’s death of District 4 Council Member Bob Caldwell, the council has been operating with six instead of seven members.   As required by the county’s charter, the central committee nominated candidates that were residents of District 4 and of the same political affiliation as Caldwell (Republican).  The four nominees put forth are Bill Carey, John Hall, Robert Huntington, and Catherine Keim. The Daily Times reports:

“I want to make sure that the person we select can work well with the current council,” said Stevie Prettyman, R-Dist. 2.

Prettyman said she also wants to make sure that during the interviews the six council members will conduct in a closed session, they pick someone for the District 4 seat who will fairly represent his or her constituents.

“I really do believe that the four names that the central committee put forward all seem to be qualified,” said Prettyman, who hopes the current council members can come to a unanimous decision about which nominee should fill the vacancy.

The selected nominee with serve as a Council Member until the next County Council election.
