The Winter Conference features 16 educational sessions, one of which is entitled “Miss Utility Law – New Requirements, New Protections.” Recent legislation established the Maryland Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Authority to enforce new requirements of the Miss Utility Law. These new requirements will apply and affect the marking of utilities owned by local governments as well as provide for a process for the Authority to hear complaints and assess civil fines. This session will discuss the importance of the Miss Utility Law, public education efforts, the new requirements, and the Authority’s enforcement procedures.

Confirmed speakers include R. Thomas Hoff, Sr., Chairman, Maryland Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Authority and Robert B. Cooper, P.E., Director, Department of Public Works, Harford County.

This session will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm and is sponsored by MACo’s Engineers Affiliate. For more information on this session or any of the other sessions being held at MACo’s Winter Conference, please download our registration brochure by clicking here.
