On Wednesday, November 9, MACo hosted its third annual Half-Day in Annapolis training session for county officials and staff. Nearly 40 county elected officials and professional staff attended the free event, including county commissioners, attorneys, budget officers, health officers, human services staff, parks and recreation officials, and corrections officials.

Morning discussions focused on the legislative process, MACo’s bill review and hear ing procedures, and the fiscal note process. A short guided walk tour offered highlight of some of the historical and practical areas of interest within the government complex. Afternoon discussions were held in the Senate building focusing on budget and bill hearing protocols and tips on testifying.
MACo and Department of Legislative Services staff served as the presenters. Feedback from the attendees was very favorable and MACo plans to hold future Half-Day in Annapolis events on a regular basis.
