LGAC Report Aims to Assist Local Governments in WIP Implementation

The Local Government Advisory Committee to the Chesapeake Executive Council (LGAC) and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay have jointly released a short report designed to assist local governments as they attempt to draft and implement their Watershed Implementation Plans (WIPs) under the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) requirements.  LGAC, which is chaired by Harford County Council Member Mary Ann Lisanti, is designed to be an information center and provide a sounding board for local governments subject to the TMDL.

The report provides an overview of LGAC and the WIP process, summarizes implementation measures local governments can use to meet their TMDL pollution goals.  It also provides links to WIP planning resources and contact information for state officials involved with the WIPs for each of the Bay states.

In recognition that the EPA has not made a successful reachout to local governments, LGAC is also trying to forge closer links with the EPA.  MACo will work with LGAC to provide the maximum tools and resources possible for county governments as they draft their WIPs.
