Comcast Addresses Barriers to Broadband Access Through New Program

Comcast — one of MACo’s Corporate Partners — has recently announced the launch of an ambitious broadband adoption program that provides affordable Internet access to low-income families. Called Internet Essentials, the program provides participants with internet access a at low-rate of $9.95  month, a voucher redeemable to purchase a low-cost computer, and access to free digital literacy training. Eligibility requirements for the program are:

  • Be located where Comcast offers Internet service
  • Have at least one child receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program
  • Have not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days
  • Not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment
