Implementation of health care reform is well under way in Maryland. However, it is anticipated that gaps in access to care will continue due to financial barriers and provider shortages. This session will discuss health care reform in Maryland with an emphasis on preventative care; challenges our health departments face, especially in the rural parts of the State; and innovative ways counties are preparing to fill gaps in care.
Speakers include: Joshua M. Sharfstein, M.D., Secretary, DHMH; Maggie Elehwany, J.D., Government Affairs and Policy Vice President, National Rural Health Association; and Peter Beilenson, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer, Howard County.
