Interested stakeholders are invited to participate in a meeting on March 30 at 4:00 PM at the Governor Calvert House, 58 State Circle, Annapolis, to discuss the establishment of the Chesapeake Bay Coalition. The meeting will last about 90 minutes and a conference call number will be provided to those unable to personally attend. The purpose of the Coalition will be to provide a forum for multi-state dialogue to understand the requirements of the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and at a minimum focus on three key areas:
- Identify and secure federal funding for Chesapeake Bay Restoration efforts
- Work to develop acceptable, science-based modeling resources in addition to the current model established and maintained by the United States Environmental Protection Agency
- Ensure that federal facilities be required to make the same modifications as non-federal facilities to meet the TMDL limits
The Coalition will work to mitigate the financial resources required to fulfill the TMDL regulations by ensuring that the modeling is accurate and the federal government takes the same steps as local governments to fulfill its environmental responsibilities. Local governments are welcome to participate.
The guest speaker will be Delegate Marvin Holmes, Chair of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee and Member of the State Water Quality Advisory Committee.
