“Mountain Maryland” Counties Witness Dramatic County Turnover

In the September 14 primary elections, voters from both Garrett and Allegany Counties called for substantial change in their county elected officials. In Garrett County, two of the three sitting Commissioners were defeated by primary opponents, and in Allegany all three sitting Commissioners were outpaced by primary rivals.

Allegany County Commissioner Bob Hutcheson, currently serving as MACo’s First Vice President, was among those defeated in yesterday’s primary results. Commissioner Hutcheson has served as Commissioner since 2000, and on the MACo Board of Directors since 2007.

Garrett County Commissioner Fred Holliday is also a current member of MACo’s Board of Directors, serving in that capacity since 2003. He was first elected as a County Commissioner in 1999.
